This report is for part of June and July 2012.

First we must sadly acknowledge the passing of Paul Lieb, KH6HME on Sunday
July 15, 2012 at age 84. He was a longtime member of BIARC, Hilo ARC in
Hilo, a life member of ARRL and several other clubs. He was an electrical
contractor and the owner of World Electric. In the past he also owned the
Miller-Lieb water company in Hawaiian Beaches. He held many VHF/UHF
distance records by way of the California-Hawaii Duct that happens between
Hawaii and the West Coast. He was given a special plaque at the 1999 Dayton
Hamvention and was the keynote speaker that year. He was the grandson of
the original German immigrant settlers to Anaheim and his father was the
first electrician in the area. He will be missed. His picture is on the
ARRL Pacific Section Webpage. Paul was a veteran of the Korean War and
became a master Sargent in the USAF.

Still another silent key was Edward Dung, NH6WI, a longtime member of the
EARC. He was regular on the EARC net, and for many years the source of the
net’s nightly on-air weather report. He passed away on February 25 at the
age of 55. Edward was an example of how people with disabilities could
still find rewards in the world of ham radio. Afflicted with a condition
that confined him to a motorized wheelchair and limited the use of his hands
and fingers, he could still use his 2 meter radio by means of a remote
push-to-talk switch. Edward was originally licensed as a Novice as WH6CGG,
after which he upgraded to a Technician in April 1990 and received NH6WI as
his current call sign. Services were held at Nuuanu Memorial Park, Saturday
March 10th. Thirty eight Hams attended. Edward's ashes were scattered off
of Waikiki Beach on Monday, March 12. Thanks to the EARC website for the
information.

We must also report the passing of Joe Day, NH7LP. There are no other
details. He had an Extra class license. He was not a member of ARRL or any
club.
