Aloha, QRZ?

Pat, AA6EG here.

I am planning a vacation on Oahu, and need some information to optimize the
vacation. I will be on limited budget, so need to save money wherever I
can. I may have access to a place on the North Shore, near the Foodland
Market , below the Big Earth Station, but want to travel, hike, camp,
outside the normal Tourist Routes. I think I will have access to a
friend's small pickup truck, with camper shell, so may rough it by
"camping" inside the back of the truck, wherever the day's travels end,
each day.
I look for suggestions on Repeaters for the North Shore area, the highway
between north shore, and Honolulu, Kaena Point. And the Place somewhere
that they launch Hang gliders from a high point. Are people allowed to
camp/sleep in camper shells, or small campers on Pickup trucks, on or near
the beaches? Or generally areas on the roads, where there are Parking or
turnouts?
Any strongly recommended visits for a Radio Ham/Tecchie? I am interested
in Radio History in Hawaii too, so if here are any remanents of a Marconi
HF station, that kind of stuff interests me... I may want to buy a second
hand HT radio on the island for my use there. What band is better, 2M or
440?

Looking also to hit a Hawaii radio club Meeting if possible. Looking for
Moonbounce interested hams, or Trans Pacific VHF/UHF operations, if they
exist on Oahu.... So much to plan..... I just need to start making
connections.

Aloha, 73, Best, Pat AA6EG
