Amateur Radio operators in Hawaii.
Hurricane season officially starts on Tuesday, June 1. Hawaii State
Civil Defense (SCD) sponsors the annual state-wide hurricane exercise.
This Saturday morning, an amateur radio exercise gives amateur radio
operators around the state an opportunity to test their equipment,
preparedness and operating skills. The web page with information on the
amateur radio participation listing frequencies and high level schedule
has been updated:
http://www.qsl.net/ah6rh/am-radio/emcomm/makani-pahili-10.html
The lead amateur radio operation is a net on Saturday, May 29 from 9:00
am to 12 noon. At 11:00 am, a simulated Category 4 hurricane makes
landfall on Oahu.
Stations are encouraged to practice composing and sending ICS-213
formatted messages BEFORE the start of the net to prepare for the
exercise. If you need a refresher, please see:

A waiver has been filed with the FCC to allow designated amateur radio
operators who are employees to pass simulated emergency communications
on behalf of their employer. Persons from SCD, Oahu DEM, and many
hospitals are on the list. If you or your organization are not on the
list, please contact Clem Jung at SCD via email at cjung at scd.hawaii.gov
on Monday, May 24. Include your name, callsign, and your employer.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact me via email. I will
have limited contact with email prior to Saturday's 9:00 am start.
