Hi,

The test with Ron (AH6RH) in which I participated, regarding the
BuddiPole antenna, was not documented, as far as I can recall.
Subsequent tests have shown this antenna to be approximately 10dB
worse than a dipole, as I recall from John's (KH7T) recent remarks.

Sunday morning 10/15/06, when I was on the air with Roland (AH6RR),
the performance of the BuddiPole was at least 3 S-units worse than his
40m whip, between Kona and Waimea, in a direct comparison.

Aloha, Norm, NH7UA

Updated the web page listing the events of interest regarding
emergency
management in Hawaii.

Look over the list, then make a promise to yourself that you'll
increase
your preparedness.

Team,

Here are summary statistics of Sunday's operations at State CD
RACES/ARES.

1) Activity started at 7:10 am.
2) KH6HPZ Net started at SCD at 7:35 am (estimated).
3) A total of 55 messages exchanged (inbound and outbound). Two were
formal messages (handled on behalf of a message originator)
4) Net secured at 5:20 pm.

Aloha Team,
One of the things I found that is a big drawback in the radio kits
that all the hospitals is the antenna (Buddy Pole). This is a very
poor choice of antenna as they work almost as good as a dummy load. I
think they should be replaced (very soon) with a all band dipole. And
the kits should have a extra power cord for the radio that will hook-
up to a battery. I used my mobile rig as we could not get a signal out
with the kit radio at the Kona Hospital. And when it hits the fan like
Sunday we can at least get the messages out and in.

 Just my thoughts
Roland Spoon AH6RR

Interesting. When we tested the Buddipole back in December, it worked
fine with Norm, NH7UA.

Maybe it was just propagation, perhaps you were near metal, etc.

See this website.

You're free to add additional antennas and even preinstall them, as
the
situation indicates.

My favorite happens to be a Yaesu FT-817 barefoot on a Hustler 40m
mobile antenna.....still don't know what it worked so well with Norm,
but it did. I still have the amp to bring it to 50 watts if needed.
