One needs big cross polarized beams to pull out intelligible sigs.

It's only 1/2 watt, and the closest approach is something like 300 
miles, and typically, it's more like 500+.  500+ miles 1/2 Watt VHF on a 
tumbling space suit is far from ideal sig conditions.
