Hi everyone,
As you may know, the hospitals in the islands have ham radio stations
for use in an emergency. Some have installed stations, some have the
"suitcase radios" or "flyaway kits" deployed as necessary. Many of
these hospitals have volunteer ham radio operators on staff and/or
community volunteers who assist them. Several of these hospitals are
actively looking for more community volunteers. (But, probably most
of them could use more assistance.) On Oahu, this group is organized
under Health Comm. See http://aditl.com/hc/ for more information on
the group.

The ham radio groups at Pali Momi and Straub Medical Centers are
looking for a few community volunteers.

Licensed operators who live in the area of these facilities are
particularly welcome. Others who could easily come to either Straub
or Pali Momi in an emergency would be helpful also. They would also
like to hear from interested others who would like to help out and
would be interested in getting their ham radio licenses.

Volunteers will be asked to:
    * Become official volunteers of the hospital. That is needed to
get a volunteer badge which allows admittance to the facility during
an emergency and identifies you as there on official business at other times.
    * Come to training and possibly a few meetings of the group each
year. The current staff/volunteers will work with you to familiarize
you with the radios, the operating area and the procedures specific
to that hospital.
    * Assist with equipment tests and participate in drills several
times a year.
