Hawaii Amateur Radio Operators,
Today marks the first day of the annual hurricane exercise sponsored by
Hawaii State Civil Defense. Dubbed Makani Pahili 2004, it runs from May
10 to May 24.
This year, amateur radio operations will two sessions to practice
emergency communications. On Tuesday, State CD will be holding HF (7088
KHz) and VHF nets (State RACES Repeater System 147.02, 147.04, 147.06)
starting 7:00 pm through 8:30 pm. Net control will be KH6HPZ. Amateur
radio operators are encouraged to check-in and pass ARRL Radiogram
messages with State Civil Defense.
On Saturday morning, Oahu Civil Defense will be holding nets.
Please be sure to prefix and suffix all test messages with the sentence
"This is an exercise message"
This e-mail serves as a simulated notice that a hurricane is in the
area, and a Hurricane Watch is underway.
Tuesday night's net will concentrate on passing messages for emergency
operations immediately after the passing of the hurricane. See pages 11
through 13 of the exercise plan (link below) for suggested scenarios for
creating test messages.
