Subject: finding the ham swap meet by car or bus
The ham swap meet is this coming Saturday (April 3), 8 to 11:30 AM at Aiea
Elementary School. All hams and friends urged to attend and bring ham gear.
At the Thursday night EARC meeting, several hams asked me for more detailed
directions to the Aiea Elementary School. So, here goes:
By public transportation: Numbers 11, 53 and 54 buses pass right in front
of the site and there is a bus stop in both directions. Anyone needing
further bus info, please e-mail me or call 487-1863 or check directly with
TheBus information number.
>From Honolulu: Heading west, use H-1 freeway to Moanalua Freeway, following
Waianae/Pearl City/Aiea signs (do not follow H-1 to airport). Coming to Red
Hill, look for Aiea signs and get into left lane as you go over Red Hill.
Stay in this lane. After it leaves the freeway, it becomes two lanes, so
now move to the right lane. Then a third lane joins, and again move to the
right lane and proceed straight. Aiea Elementary School will be the first
major structure on the right, and Kaimakani Street will be the first
right-hand turn.
>From Leeward/Central Oahu: Heading toward Honolulu on H-1 Freeway, go past
the Waimalu exit and move to right lane. Take Aiea exit, after a stop sign
at the end of the exit, proceed ahead in the right lane. Aiea Elementary
School will be the first major structure on the right, and Kaimakani Street
will be the first right-hand turn.
>From Windward Oahu: Come over the mountain on H-3. Follow Aiea exit signs.
At first stop light, continue around to the right side (going straight ahead
will derail you), proceed straight through the second traffic light.
Kaimakani street intersection is about 1/2 mile ahead on the left side (if
you hit a THIRD or FOURTH stop light OR get to a 7-11/Tesoro gas station,
YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR, so turn around and go back and turn right on
Kaimakani). Once you are on Kaimakani, go downhill toward Aloha Stadium,
and Aiea Elementary School will be on the left before Moanalua Road.
>From Honolulu airport: Take H-1 Freeway west (toward Waianae). Go several
miles, keeping toward the right lane. Look for Aiea exit and take it.
Proceed straight ahead in right-hand lane. Aiea Elementary School will be
the first major structure on the right, and Kaimakani Street will be the
first right-hand turn.
Also, if you hit the "Aiea downtown area" (McDonalds, Starbucks, etc.) or
get to the Pearl Ridge Shopping Center, you have gone TOO FAR toward Ewa
(west) and you must head back toward Honolulu, realizing that Aiea
Elementary School is between Kamehameha Highway and the H-1 Freeway.
Anyone needing further info, please call Jim at 488-9815 or me at 487-1863.
Thanks & 73. See you at the Ham swap meet on April 3 !!!
