Kevin,
I chatted with Larry AH8LG (Pres of American Samoa Amateur Radio Assoc
ASARA) on 14222 yesterday afternoon. They are recovering. The wind hit 87
mph, took off some shingles and roofs, knocked out public power and
therefore the water supply. The prepared people are running on generators.
I suspect the public services (electricity and water) will get the most
attention. I also got an email from him after the storm so telephone and
email is up.
I asked if he needed anything and the answer was no.

Cyclone Heta: No joy
I talked with Jack, ZL4WA, yesterday at 0446Z 8Jan2004Z, and he told me that
the ERRS net (the Emergency Response International Communication Net -
Pacific Rim and Pacific Basin) has been listening, but did not hear them
since they heard them on Monday. He mentioned the conversation between W6TZ
and ZK2PM and that he had not heard them up since then. Jack is worried
about ZK2PM on Niue because it was devastated. Before and after my
conversation with Jack, I called CQ for Am. Samoa on 14.166 and heard
nothing. I will try again between 0400-0500z 9Jan2004Z (in just a few
hours), unless Lawrence Gandy suggests otherwise.
Cheers,
Kevin, AH6QO

Hawaii Hams,
Steve Ewald, WV1X at ARRL HQ requests info from stations that may be
monitoring/working stations in Samoa and nearby areas affected by Tropical
Cyclone Heta. See e-mail below.

<snip>
Yesterday, I heard about the impending tropical cyclone from SM Bob, AH6J.
A short time ago today, I heard from W7TZ, Steve in southern California,
that he is in touch with ZK2PM on 14.166 MHz. ZK2 has also been struck by
the cyclone. Maybe the 14.166 MHz is the place to listen for any activity.
If you hear of additional related information, please keep in touch.
Thank you.

Steve, WV1X
