I received the following request for assistance in my e-mail. Due to
personal circumstances, I am unable to help this guy myself. If anyone
is able to give him a hand, please contact him directly.

====================================================================

Dear Mr. Toyama,
My name is Jim Phillips KF4TCR. I also am trustee fro K1TLC (see QRZ
for more info). I will be sailing from Honolulu Feb. 13 on the Crystal
Harmony for 10 days. Four of those days we will be sailing to and back
from Fanning Island. I have asked permission to operate HF from the
ship.
-----
Dear Captain,
My name is James Phillips I will be a passenger on the Crystal Harmony
4104 sailing 13 Feb 2004. After reviewing your website and the
activities offered aboard ship, I noticed the popularity of your
computer/technology programs. I thought of an activity that I could
resent that would be most interesting, especially during the four days
at sea. I own an electronics manufacturing company and am a licensed
commercial radio operator. Semi-retired, I teach a technology and
communications unit at area schools, scout camps, youth groups, and
senior centers. I have been doing this for over ten years. It's called
the Technology Learning Center (TLC) and our classes and demonstrations
are provided at no cost as a contribution to our community. The
communication portion of program utilizes an Amateur Radio Station
K1TLC. K1TLC is FCC licensed station in the amateur radio service for
the purpose of club and educational activities. I would be most willing
to set up a small portable transceiver for the enjoyment and
articipation of other passengers. The station is quite simple. All I
would need is an electrical outlet and an a regular umbrella table. FCC
rules require that I have the permission of the ship's captain to
operate. The equipment is a Yaesu Ft-840 100 watt transceiver. It will
not interfere with any communications or navigation systems on board.
Based on previous experiences, I am certain that many passengers would
find the magic of worldwide communication very interesting and
enjoyable. It would be my pleasure to provide a few hours of my
vacation in this pursuit during the four days at sea. If you have any
questions please call or email me. 800-852-5378 [email protected]

Thank you.

James Phillips

I haven't received permission yet, but I am hoping I will get it. If I
do, I will need a way to get my equipment to Hawaii. I feel trying to
take the equipment as baggage will create a problem due to security.
What I am looking for is someone I can ship the equipment to that could
also be so kind to bring it to my hotel. I will be arriving Feb. 12th
and staying at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel (tower) 2570 Kalakaua Ave.
Honolulu, HI 96815. If it were possible, I would also like to ship a
box of books and other teaching supplies for a school on Fanning Island.
I understand the school is very poor and they could use some help. Maybe
you or someone you know and trust could help me. I can be reached via
email or 800-852-5378.

Thank you so much.

Jim
