For All:
       The 2 M duct generally appears about this time, but most Oahu Amateurs 
don't live on Mt. Kahala!  The 2M duct appears at the elevated portion of 
Mauna Kea on the big island over the years!
       Too bad there isn't a 2M ham reptr at the 4,000 ft level.
       Several years ago, we knew that the duct was over Oahu and a US Navy 
Senior Chief (RMCS) sailor (Harley, by name) assigned to DCA/DISA the Wheeler 
AFB (At that TIME) belonged to the Wheeler flying club and launched a Piper Cub 
w/2M gear and we proved the duct does appear over Oahu, but NOT down where we 
all live.
       Within the last 10-15 years the duct did come down on the Windward 
side of Oahu. Some of us worked simplex and others DIDN'T!
       I used to run skeds with Joe, W6JR (Now W1JR), Louie,WB6NMT and Victor 
Frank, W6FV using four KLM 16L yagis and 400 watts. with a liason on 20M!
       The very first Hawaiian Amateur to complete Oahu to California on 2M 
was
KH6UK (SK) of Kahuku, Oahu. He also did it on 220 and 432 MHz.
       A little history and some operational wisdom to boot!
       Oh, when the running solar flux is between 17-20 and a K-indices of 4 
or better,
the duct will appear during this period, around our Pacific Hurricane season!
       These facts I have due to the fact that I have been collecting solar 
data daily for the past 44-yrs.
