Turns out to have been a false alarm,  nuts!  Rcvd the following
from a fellow in Greece:

Dear Jim,
SY8A was a special contest call activated from the island of 

Zakynthos (Zante), a Greek island located at Ionian sea. It 

counts as Greece, and has nothing to do with Athos. (unfortunately).
