>From KH2D:

"There's no power on Guam, no water, and no telephones.
And no antennas. Hence, there's nobody on HF to have
skeds with. There are no ISP's working that I can find (no
power, no phones to Hawaii).

But the government there must have communications to
the U.S., because the newspaper says:

"President Bush declared Guam a federal disaster area this morning.

The entire island is without power and residents have little to no water
after Supertyphoon Pongsona pounded Guam with its torrential rain and winds
of more than 100 mph yesterday. Rescue officials are trying to confirm
reports of seriously injured and missing people. There have been no reports
of deaths, according to Civil Defense and hospital officials."

PDN also says FEMA is already there, so you might be able to make
communications thru them.

If it's an emergency, go to http://www.guampdn.com/ and
contact the Gannett newspaper people, they have a direct
phone line into the newspaper there from Hawaii that was
working earlier today, W1RYM in Guam callled WH2U in Hawaii
on the phone.

I talked to KH2JU on the phone last nite while the eye was
going over the north end of the island. He said it was pretty
nasty then, lots of flooding in low areas and some missing
roofs in the neighborhood. The PDN also says it was a nasty
storm, but Guam is used to nasty storms, so there are no
reported casualties as of now.

You can read all the latest news about Guam on the PDN
web site, that's the best source for news that I know of
until the phones get working again.

Watch for the 'bulletins' at the top of the main page, like
this one:

73, Jim KH2D"

And from Ken Waters:

"Thanks, Jim. Yeah, we've been watching the PDN site also. Actually,
I'd think that a ham with a generator and a temporary dipole or vertical
might be working on air.

FEMA is working on chartering a plane to get out there. I may be
joining them in a few days. We're just digging for any info on the
impact of the storm to pass on to our HQ in DC.

Thanks for the quick response. If any one else has a QSO with Guam
please do let me know.

Thx! 73 de N4PBY/Ken"
