There will be a re-organizational meeting of the Battleship Missouri
Amateur Radio Club on Saturday, April 20, at 10 AM on board the ship.

The Missouri is owned and operated by the Battleship Missouri Memorial
Association, a non-profit corporation. The ship receives no subsidies and
must generate all its income from visitors and donations. Therefore the
Association staff is only interested in activities aboard ship that
"enhance the visitor experience." There was a first meeting of BMARC over
two years ago, but for much of the intervening time an amateur radio
operation was not considered of much value by the Association staff, and so
the club went into hibernation except for some special events.

All of that has changed in recent months. The amateur radio operation is
finally being perceived as a useful adjunct to the visitor's tour; there's
a desire on the part of the Association staff to have the main Radio
Central compartment open to guided tours, even if unfinished, and to have
the station manned as much as possible. So it's time to get moving. Club
activities would include, among other things: operation of the club station
KH6BB, both in general and particularly for special events, such as Museum
Ships weekend in late July; designing, planning, and installation of
additional antennas (includes cable tracing in receiver and transmitter
compartments); and restoration of amateur and military equipment we have
recently acquired.

At the earlier meeting of BMARC we elected officers (President KH7JJ, Vice
President Lee KH6BZF, Secretary and Treasurer John K1ER); directors (K1ER,
KH6BZF, Sid AH6HH, Jim N6PJQ); and a trustee (K1ER). We have not yet
compiled an official membership list or collected dues, so here is a chance
to become a charter member.

All are welcome to attend the meeting on Saturday, April 20, at 10 AM.
Because the ship is on a military base, access is limited.

***I must know at least several days in advance if you intend to come, in
order to make up an access list for the ship (and the trolley, see below)*** .

Because of increased security, we can no longer get one-time access for
automobiles to cross the Ford Island bridge. If you already have a pass
for your car, there's plenty of parking near the ship. If you don't have a
pass, you will either have to carpool with someone who does, or park at the
USS Bowfin (Arizona Memorial) - it's free - and take the trolley across
(this is how paying visitors get to the ship). First trolley leaves the
Bowfin about 0915, thereafter every 5-7 minutes. I will have an access
list at the trolley boarding location.

73,

Ned KH7JJ
President, BMARC
