Barry and Hank,
Thanks for your suggestions.
What do you think about Iambic Mode A vs Mode B?
I have had a Vibroplex Brass Racer since the 80's. It is the model that
came without a keyer built in (in other words not the Brass Racer
Iambic), but I carved out a cavity in the base and installed a nine volt
battery and a keyer circuit I build on a perf board (robbed a Curtis
chip from an external keyer); so I have the equivalent of the Brass
Racer Iambic. I've had it since the 80's, but I've never really spent
much time on the air. so it really hasn't seen a lot of use. It appears
to be using Iambic mode A, I don't know if it supports Mode B or not.
(It is only this week that I learned there are two modes; so I'll look
into that.)
Back in the 80's I also had a Bencher Paddle for a short period of
time. I didn't like the feel of it and got rid of it. This week I
ordered a CWTouchKeyer and will give that a try also. I really like the
Brass Racer, but I'm also interested in the CWTouchKeyer to see what it
feels like to eliminate the mechanical feel/click altogether. Not
having experience with a wide variety of paddles and having never used a
bug at all, I just looking for advice from those of you with more
experience.
Maybe you will be hearing me on the air sometime in the next few weeks.
Right now I am knocking off the dust practicing with the MFJ-418, W1AW
code practice transmissions, and listening to on-the-air high speed QSOs.
Thanks again,
Paul, WI5F
