[Henry] New 2KD Classic Owner Hello and Query

Michael,

Congratulations on acquiring the 2KD. I have a 2KD-5 and love it. They are
very reliable and easy to operate. You can reach the WARC bands on them,
too.

There is a two-page addendum to the manual that describes how to add the
10-meter coils - one for the tuned input coil board and the tank L2. I
found that mine had both installed, but the 10-m input coil was incorrectly
wired. I changed it, and the amplifer works very well on that band.

If you can't find the two pages anywhere, send me an address, and I will
mail you a xerox of the two pages. You will have to guesstimate the coil
values and either make them or find some substitutes- but neither is
critical.

Maybe someone on the list can help with original replacement parts. But L2
should be similar to what is shown on page 11 of the manual - three turns of
heavy copper from the band switch assembly to L3; I can't remember exactly
how many turns are on the one in mine, and I cant see it through the
shielding. Follow the schematic. You can play with the turns till it loads
smoothly. On mine, 10 m phone results in 175 for the tune control and 68
for load at rated SSB input. The tuned input coil is tuned for a 1/1 match
at the input. The values are in the parts list. It should resemble the 15
meter coil but have 5 turns, not 6. You might be able to use the dummy coil
form. An excellent match should be possible.

Take a look and make certain the coils are not there already. As I said,
mine did not work on 10 when I bought it - but the coils were there.

Maybe someone else out there has something to add to this - such as the
dimensions for L2.

73,

Rocco N6KN
