First thing to do, is to get in on the bench. Open her up and do a good
visual inspection. Look for arcing, burnt components, leaking caps, signs
of over heating( power transformer, chokes), do a smell test, if
something went south there maybe a burnt smell. I work on High Power DC
supplies ( up 100 KW) for a living, and most of my repairs are visual.
Pull the tubes, if a tube test is available test them. Before any power
on testing, do ohmmeter checks from all DC sources to ground. If all
looks good, power up and check the low voltage supply section first, then
move onto the HV section. Slow going, but can save you a lot of grief
later on. Hope you can get the old girl going again.
