Hi Howie
 
A lot depends on how much livestock you have living underground - moles  
etc. I would be inclined to lay it in a protective pipe to minimise predator  
damage and glue or seal the joints and ends to prevent ingress of  water.
 
I use RG8X for all of my coax connections which has a loss of 0.9dB per  10
0ft at 10MHz and 4.5dB at 200MHz compared to 1.5dB and 7.3dB respectively 
for  RG58.
