Hi Steve. Older BA receivers are one of the things I collect. I'm only stating the following to express my personal choices, not to boast.
- I have a nice SX-101A, All the paper caps were bad, but one thing that was annoying was the stability. Just a gentle tapping the band switch, made it shift around. Guess someday (?) I need to use some good De-Oxit on the wafers.
I have a SX-117. After the ER mods, it as good as any receiver in my collection. Plus, the al chassis stays nice unlike the old steel ones.
Also have a RME 4350A, and a 6900. I've had multiple 6900s (one 6900/6901 combo belonged to that great DXer, W6AM) and they are awesome with that slide rule dial. Since I like VHF, a while back, I found the unusual RME VHF 126 converter for 6, 2, and 220 MHz. The 126 was not made to match the 6900 in size or style. It was an odd combination. Back a year or two, I finally found a nice RME 4350A receiver. Both the 4350A and the 126 converter look identical and have that nice, big 1/2 circle dial with the polished metal knob and very smooth Vernier drive.
Last year, I found a matching speaker and SSB converter. Very nice set-up but huge, space wise. State of the art? Naw, but neither am I!!!
