Over-priced is probably a reasonable criticism but the SX-115 is an excellent receiver and it is very well built. I would rank it first in that family but followed closely by the SX-101A which also has very good performance but with its band switched HFO it isn’t quite as stable and doesn’t provide the same degree of calibration on all ranges. For someone who wants about 95% of the SX-115 performance at a much lower price pick up one of the SX-101 models. There are several variants in this line with the latest versions having better stability and a product detector but losing coverage of 160 meters in favor of a converter band.
The SX-101 and Hammarlund HQ-170 are probably the current price/performance (value) leaders for vintage gear of that era. Both were sold in quantity. I think the performance and ergonomic design of the SX-101 gives it a slight edge but they are close and both good choices.

I would not call either one "small" but I believe the SX115 is narrower. Someone was saying recently that the SX115 is over-rated. Certainly pricey sometimes! I like the solid physical construction of the case and front panel on the HT32 and SX115. QUALITY all the way!

The Hallicrafters SX-115 has always been popular or even the smaller
SX-117.
