[Heathkit] SB-230 Transformer Rating

Hello All, 

I am upgrading my SB-230 to work with a GI-7BT. I'm using a voltage
doubler to get the 12.6V filament power it needs off the transformer's
6.3V 8873 filament secondary. The 8873 is rated for 3A @ 6.3V, and I am
drawing about 3.7A off that secondary to make the 12.6V @ 1.75A that my
GI-7BT is drawing. My question is this, is there any reference for the
transformer used in the SB-230 to find out what it's 6.3V secondary is
actually rated for? 

Were those transformers off-the-shelf models of the day, or custom made
for Heathkit? Is there any body of knowledge about them anywhere?
