[Heathkit] Strange-looking SB-600 spkr?

Doug's comments prompted me to recall noting that the speaker in mine has a Canadian manufacturers name on it. I don't know what significance to place on that. It is possible, I suppose, that some prototyping of some SB accessories was done by Heath Canada.
Unlike Doug, I have only seen a handful of these, causing me to think that it was never produced in large numbers. It wouldn't make sense to offer a separate product just for Canadian consumption.
Mine, and one that belongs to a friend, do not have series tags on them. Both were found on eBay and came from two different sellers, both on west coast.
I'm sticking with the prototype idea.
I should mention that I have a prototype Heath electronic keyer built into the same sized cabinet, so I think they played with this cabinet for a while.
Best,
