[Heathkit] HR-1680 Dead Band

Greetings,
I just acquired a Heathkit HR-1680 receiver and HS-1661 speaker.
The radio works fine on all bands but 15 meters.  I checked and see no 
oscillation at 29.895 MHz.  I've been told that as these xtals age they 
become hard to get oscillating.  I'm still early in my troubleshooting 
but I'm presuming that's what my problem is.
Has anyone come up with a fix without having to replace the xtal with 
another that may also be aged and have the same problem?
