[Heathkit] IT-12: "Eye" tube arrived today, a vast improvement, summer regen project

Today the eye tube that a list member sent me arrived safely and is nice
and bright like it should be (no longer have to turn the room lights off
to dimly see it).

The last item to 'fix' on this signal tracer is the probe. The probe
plastic was broken, and my attempts to fill in the missing chunks with
JB Weld were unsuccessful. Ever try to fill in a large piece of a curved
object with a product that is "fluid"? The PC board that the switch is
mounted on is also broken in half (somebody tried to glue it
unsuccessfully) and I figured on making a new one out of perf-board.

Another (scope?) probe is on it's way and between the two I should be
able to make a good probe.

I expect that this instrument is going to get a LOT of use in my
homebrewing and repair projects.

Speaking of projects. My PRIMARY summer project is the construction of
a Regenerative receiver, primarily for the NDB band (200-530KCs) but
also BCB and SW. It's basic line-up is a 6AK5 grounded grid pre-amp
(untuned), 1/2 12AU7 as an Armstrong Regen detector, 1/2 12AU7 cathode
follower coupled to the plate of the detector to provide a "counter
output" for calibration, 12AX7 two stages of AF with Low-Pass,
High-Pass, 400Hz & 1020Hz filtering (like I said, primarily NDB's and
CW), 6AQ5 output & 0B2 regulator for the detector. I originally was
only going to use 1/2 of the 12AX7 for the audio amplifier, but a couple
members of the regen group said I might want more gain. So, if it's
excessive I can always "pad it down" between the stages.

I have the chassis and panels, tube sockets some of the tubes, tuning
cap, Audio chokes for the AF filters etc. EVEN have a nice Emmco
vernier dial (from the 1920's) for the tuning dial!

Sunday afternoon I'm driving over to Los Banos to get most of the other
stuff (power/output xformers, old Octal tubes for coils, etc) as a ham
friend there said he has most of what I need sitting in the shed. THEN I
can start cutting holes and the construction proper. . .
