Good Morning from South Bend, Indiana. I think you actually mean the
SB-600 speaker model and not the SP600.
I have the same speaker / case model you refer to (
http://www.heathkit.nu/heathkit_nu_SB-600.html). The speaker itself
specs are: Speaker Size 6" x 9" oval, 8ohm, Resonant Frequency 82cps in
open air, Frequency response 300 - 3000 cps. No power supply installed
in the same housing in my case.
Also have several of the smaller HS1661 versions. These are 5" x 7"
oval, 3.5 ohms and also 300 - 3000 Hz. Have two of these set up on
either side of my communications chair wired in parallel feeding audio
from my FT-1000MP. I noted this morning that one of these same speakers
in my basement has a .047 disk capacitor across the speaker terminals
.... I must have had some RFI in what ever situation I had last used
that speaker in.
Keep in mind that both of these models are not HiFi speakers, and
neither is shortwave or ham radio. These are communications speakers
meant to aid hearing the human voice and reducing frequencies out side
of the range of 300 - 3000 Hz. This helps make speech stand out better
on the shortwave / ham radio bands. Using regular speakers, especially
high end wide frequency range speakers, will include a lot of audio
energy that is a wider frequency bandwidth that will make the human ears
/ brain filter having a more difficult time to hear human speech as
well.... especially as you and your ears get older and dont work as well
.... hi Hi HI
The speaker itself, not the housing, is a 5" x 7" oval 3.5 ohms.
Heathkit part for just the speaker was 401-172
