Although I got my first ticket in 1957, I never went on the air as a novice.
I upgraded to General in 1958.

My first station was a DX-40 and an SX-100 receiver (wish I still had it). I
operated 75M phone exclusively using a folded dipole fed with 300 Ohm
twinlead through a Heathkit balun coil.

I then got the mobile bug and went with the Cheyanne-Comanche (MT-1/MR-1)
combination. That got me through college.

I spent a couple of summers at sea using a KWM-2 on sideband - experimental
station license.

I now operate (only very occasionally) an HW-101 - (On the air you can't
tell the difference between solid state and hollow state.)
