I used the pliers also.
The first screw gave a real loud crack sound when it came loose. No damage to anything though. The second then came easily. The second did not loosen up however, until after the first loosened.
I believe I will invest in the drivers several folks mentioned. Heck, I have almost every other tool known to man and probably two or more of each. Why not some more!
Thanks to all for the suggestions and good wishes.
Now to get on to making all three SB dials I have work.
Is there a tutorial on these dial drives out there? There must be, as almost every one I have come across in over 50 years of fooling with this stuff has had dial drive malfunction.
Thanks again.

OK. So somebody took a pipe wrench to the hex wrench when they assembled
this equipment. They tightened the LMO knob so as to hold off a herd of
charging elephants! Or, is this the result of flowing aluminum coupled with
corrosion? Everything appears clean & shiny.
Now, I want to take the LMO knob off. I have the appropriate hex wrench.
To get down in to the set screw I must put the long end down into the knob.
My fingers can't turn the wrench without filleting my fingers.
Is there a secret to undo this without wrecking things? Dare I use a pliers
or other tool on the wrench?
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
TIA
Gerry
