Loading for Maximum output is not the same thing as loading for maximum approved output.  No you don't back of the drive to lower power,  you back off the loading so the final dip has you running at Heathkit's published current recommendations.

Lee, he is correct.  It's proper to adjust the Loading for max output.  Loading is what matches your finals to your load (antenna).  He didn't say he was exceeding the recommended limits. You back off the drive to keep from exceeding the limits if necessary..

Enjoy your DX-100 Andrew!

Why would you tune for maximum output with the loading control?  Seems to me you would want to load to Heathkit's recommended current for CW and Phone.  Why would you tune it beyond those limits?

Hello, Regarding the tune up and drive of the DX 100.
I peak the grid and dip the plate and adjust the loading control for max output. (which I'm fairly used to now) After that, If I wanted less power output to reduce rf in the house, because I am using a random wire ,Can I cut back on the drive to lower output without damaging the tubes . I would be using the rig for CW. If you have any other questions, I'll try to respond as quick as I can. I am in and out of the house daily.

Many thanks , Andrew Kopke
