The original manual for the SB-303 definitely aligns the heterodyne oscillator before doing anything else!

Going to 10 meters could faintly hear the 100 kc tone and could get next to nothing increase working with the coils for ant and RF coils. they do work in the sebce they I can lower the signal ,but not peak the signal.

Hi Dale,

I don't have a Heathkit SB-303. I don't have the manual you are looking
at. I have a radio from a different manufacturer with pretty much the
same scheme - same IFs, filters, and all. Mine says to do the heterodyne
oscillators *first*. I wonder why they would want you to do it backward
in the Heathkit. I would suggest getting the xtals for the bands that
are weak first and then repeak the rf and antenna.

Does "no test equipment" mean you don't have a way to measure the
frequencies those oscillators (xtals) are operating or peak them? No RF
probe for your VTVM? You don't need a 5 million dollar radio lab but you
should try to get some of the stuff like a VTVM and frequency
measurement. Those can be built at home but many are available for cheap
at hamfests, used - probably for not much more than the cost of buying
parts to build your own.

Good luck with your radio.
