[Heathkit] [Heathkit:Yahoo] Pot shaft stuck 'rock solid'

I have fought this battle and won, but don't get in a hurry. Go guy a can of
Kroil!
It’s the magic stuff, turn the radio up so that the shaft is pointing
straight up and
spray a 'small' amount around the shaft. You will actually be able to see it
creep in around the shaft and disappear. Do this a few time and then just
let it
sit. After 24 hours "gently" try to move the shaft with plier.
We have a saying on the railroad, if it will wink it will screw! Now what
that means
is this, if you can get it to move even a smidgen, put some more oil on it
and wait
a day and try again, it will move a little more every day until it comes
loose. We use
use this method on rusted bolts and screws.
Or you can go at it like a bull in a china cabinet and put vice grips on it
and
destroy your control

Hi Rob
A very thin penetrating oil or even parafin and some patience should work
but may take a while. The pot on my SB610 does have a small amount of
sideways as well as back and forward play in the rotatable shaft so there
should
be room for the oil to wick into the gap.
If you can get the control out of the 610 then try suspending the shaft end
in penetrating oil or soak a piece of tissue in the oil and wrap it around
the control shaft and leave for a while. Give it a twist now and then and
it should eventually clear.
The problem will be more difficult if the blockage is caused by corrosion
instead of old dried grease.

I have a pot whose shaft got stuck 'rock solid' somehow after a few years
of
non use - but at one time it worked smoothly (it's the ON/OFF switch + pot
on my SB-610).
Are there any standard solutions for this?
Thanks,
