Hi Sandy
There have been some previous references to heating the core to see if that
would loosen it. I have used a metal Allen key to move some difficult
cores but it is very important that the Allen key is a snug fit inside the core
and not sloppy otherwise it will break the core.
I use a smear of silicon tap grease to hold cores in place once the thread
in the former has been cleaned out. Also worth checking that your plastic
trimming tool has not shrunk over the years as that will also cause core
breakage.
All of the screening can cores that I have seen in the Heathkit SB-Line
units have been dust iron and those are soft enough to pick out with a sharp
scriber and a lot of patience - does not work with ferrite cores though.

Hi, gang,
Working on a radio and I have a coil can with a stuck slug. Won't move even
with some effort from my trusty alignment hex tool.
So I need some advice on how to loosen that critter. I can't be absolutely
sure, but I am certain that the slug is not cracked. I thought what I might
use. I have a nice Wagner heat gun with two settings. If I applied some
heat to the slug can, would that possibly help get things moving again?
I'd like some advice before I try this (or another recommendation?)
approach.
