[Heathkit] SB-610 - tube pins and sockets

Hi Eddy,

Those compactrons have the same style pins as the 7 and 9 pin minis and
the loctals. Oxidation between the pins and sockets is more of a problem
for those than for the pins and sockets used on the octal and 4, 5, and
6 pin tubes of old.I don't see any of that as a real problem. They will
*all* get some oxidation that will interfere "eventually" and when
depends on more than just the pin and socket style. One of the most
obvious factors is a smoking environment or not. A lot of other
environmental factors are in play as well and likely many unknown
factors. If you have to unplug/replug every few years I don't see how
that is a serious "problem" as some hams describe it. Sometimes they
need to be treated with contact cleaner <insert your favorite brand
here>. Often times not. Socketed ICs and transistors do the same thing.

As to your second 6U10..well you're on your own there. I have one or two
compactrons in the cache and no sockets. I also have no plans to ever
use them. When I next get into my tube stash I'll haul them out and
offer them up on the qth.net altar.
