I will not offer any more comments since it is obvious that some jump into
the thread without knowing what was originally said. Everyone, please have
a nice day.

Subject: [Heathkit] un-built Heathkit
I guess this has gone on so long that some have forgot - Grow Up!
I'm not paying $1600 for an unopened kit. Especially one that I'd have
to replace a whole bunch of parts to make it work. If radios sit on the
shelf and go bad due to not being used, don't you think that those
electrolytics and paper caps are any better than the ones you find in
one that is still in the wrapper?
I've had a bunch of parts from Heathkit packages. This was back in the
mid '80s. They tested off tolerance, and bad leakage just simply
opening the sealed bags and testing them.
How about carbon composition resistors sitting in their original
drawers? I bought them just for the storage.
Testing them resulted in way out of tolerance. I wouldn't even bother
to put a voltage across them! I need arcs on my bench like I *need* a
lightning strike!
YMMV
