Bob, just for giggles, you might doing some 'research' into the pros and cons of painting the inside of the tube shield. There is a LOT of opinions both pro and con of doing this.
Personally, I do it to every tube radio in my collection. However, I also add a small, quiet muffin fan to the radio as well.....My Drake TR-6, for example, went from not being able to put my arm on the covers (after several hours on 'on' time), to just above room ambient. How can this hurt???

Thanks everyone for all the replies and hints about the heat problems RE: the
SB-401 driver tube shield.
I did see a note as I recall, somewhere, from Heath warning that it *must* be on
? maybe in a trouble shooting guide somewhere.
I am getting a tube and a shield. Both of which are missing on this rig.
