So the question that needs asking, Why are you doing this?
What do you expect to accomplish??
If you look at this restoration in the light of something to
do, a hobby or pasttime if you will, of that you like the
idea of saving a piece of history for a new generation then
perhaps its not completely foolish.
But as Glen mentioned you aren't going to become wealthy
doing this. I would wager that no matter how nicely the unit
is restored, and how well the item does at auction on ebay,
will you come close to minimum wage on your time spent. I
have fully restored a number of old vacuum tube hifi
amplifiers and even with the crazy prices that audio people
pay for tube gear, its still only a labor of love.
With a Heathkit you might do best if you tore the entire
unit down and restored it to an unbuilt kit! If you did a
nice job someone might actually pay real money for the
experience of building one again :)
