I recently bought and rehabbed an SB-610 station monitor, thinking I could
connect it permanently to an AM or SSB transmitter as a modulation monitor
displaying a trapezoid pattern - much easier to interpret than the usual
symmetrical sine wave pattern.
>From the SB-610 instruction manual it appears that the only configuration
that will produce a trapezoid pattern is the one shown in Figure 13, which
compares the input with the output of a linear amplifier.
In other words, there is no standard configuration that will produce a
trapezoid using the exciter alone.
(I suppose one could dig into an AM transmitter, extract the audio, and feed
it to the SB-610 untuned vertical input channel.)
It also appears that there is no way to produce the double trapezoid used to
evaluate SSB modulation.
Does anybody know whether the SB-614 suffers from similar shortcomings?
Could anybody send me the "Installation and Operation" section of an SB-614
manual?
