[Heathkit] DX-40 Pwr Xfmr

In 1959, my novice tx was a DX-40. When I upgraded to cond., I traded it to a very good friend. One afternoon he came home from school, went into his bedroom/shack and turned it on to 'warm' up, then went to eat super. When he returned, his room was full of smoke...and that was in the days of 117vac. His dad banished him to the back yard smoke house. He said he didn't mind that too bad, cause he could sneak a few cigs. We are still good friends. I expect today's higher line voltage attributed to my problem...thankfully I had added a fuse.

Hi Bill: With a line voltage of 125 volts. That pretty much says why the
transformer failed.
Regards,
Gary
