[Heathkit] SA-2060A tuner question (cont.)

Three careful readers sent me a note saying that the SA-2040 has no antenna
switch. I knew that but I messed up by replying "to all" to a message from a
responder whose subject was his SA-2040 instructions.
Sorry to redirect the focus to the SA-2040 when my comments were in regard
to the SA-2060A.
Facts are (from my original SA-2060A post - posted 1-27 @ 11:18AM):
***********************SNIP***************************
There is a conflict in how the manual describes the hook ups (as I read it
at least).
On page 51 of the SA-2060A manual in paragraph 3, the manual states (I have
edited for brevity):
"3. When you use a single feedline connected to J3, you MUST have NO coax
feedline connected to either J1 or J2 coax inputs...you must then turn the
feedline switch (SW101) to an open connector position. If you do not follow
this procedure, you will have two feedlines in parallel."
The conflicting info is on page 52 in paragraphs 2. and 3. in the
"SINGLE-WIRE ANTENNAS" section.
Here's how the manual describes the hook ups:
"2. Connect the antenna to SINGLE WIRE connector J3.....
3. Be sure *either* COAX 1 (J1) *or* COAX 2 (J2) is open. Turn antenna
switch (SW101) to the open jack connection."
*************************End of SNIP********************
George, KC1V, has confirmed there is continuity between J3 (single wire
terminal) and either J1 or J2 (coax jacks) depending on the position of the
SW101. This pretty much suggests that the info in the SA-2060A manual on
page 52 is accurate and the warning on page 51 is in error. Maybe it was a
carry-over from the SA-2040 manual and no one at Heath caught it.
Again, sorry for the confusion.

Chris

Thanks, Bill.
I appreciate your responding to my inquiry/request. :-) I also wish to thank
Bob, G3OOU, and George, KC1V, for their responses and helpful pictures and
technical info.
It is becoming apparent that there's a problem here in Tuner city. Why in
the world would Heath put a switch on the front panel that allows for the
selection of different antennas (presumably that are connected to the
provided terminals and jacks) and then warn the user to not connect more
than one antenna to your tuner at a time!!! Go figure!
Will keep everyone posted if I come up with anything different.

Chris
