Schottky diodes do a better job than the old germanium diodes in balanced modulators.

Subject: [Heathkit] Carrier in SB100

howdy folks. Well continuing on my sb100, I got the dial sorted out kinda, it still slips a little and Im not touching it anymore, its just gonna have to slip some

I have gotten pretty good reports on this radio on all 5 bands, full output, great rx however, last night I was told I had some carrier in there. So I tried to  null it out but I can't get it totally nulled.

I'm going to replace all four diodes on the modulator board, 1N191's, with, of course, the NTE equivelent UNLESS you fellers can recommend a diode that you prefer.

Seems I had this same problem in my HW101 back in the early 70's and shot gunning the diodes did the trick.

thanks in advance

Ronnie
