Paolo,

I'd suggest looking at the Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene.

We can buy it in reasonable sized blocks.

It is machinable, and it is "almost" as slick as Teflon, BUT - it is a 
very high strength polymer.

I have used it in lieu of teflon.  I even use it for my router table, 
with strips cut to lay in the router fence and the bed of the table.

It really is an extremely durable item.
