[Heathkit] Suggestion for legal limit AM amp (was Heath Warrior as an AM amplifier)

Bob,
Rice boxes and the controlled carrier rigs work WELL with linears. I
started several times to inject that my Alpha 8410 doesn't object to AM, but
realized that I had only used it with my IC-7700 and the K3, neither of
which is plate modulated, hi. It only takes a few watts of rf to make 375W
of carrier with that thing, and a lot of the others mentioned will have the
same problem (QRO, etc). I think the DX-60, with appropriate modification
and power reduction sounds great, as you said. Most of the Drakes sound
good with the L4B as an amplifier as well.
I am just wondering now if it's worth trying to lower the output of my
Ranger after it is "restored" to run with the linear, or just take the leap
and build up something like the 813 amp Dave Ishmael has been showing in ER
magazine?? Wish I could find a nice, desktop amp that was designed with the
Ranger in mind, but those are priced HIGH when found!! That said, my Viking
II holds it's own on 80 and 40M and I have a Valiant and Globe Champ 300A
waiting to be rebuilt, so maybe that's the way to go on 80 and 160M??
I'm just glad to see the continued interest in AM, and am enjoying the
contacts I make there.

Don, WB5HAK
