I had to laugh about the school teacher who melted the bubble wrap around the tubes.  When I was in the Air Force back in the 60s, we received a  brand new Collinss 30L-1 linear at the MARS station.  Myself and the other ham eagerly took it out of its box, plugged it in and watched in horror as clouds of smoke roiled out of the cabinet.  Seems Collins wrapped the 811s in cardboard sleeves, which of course we were in too much of a hurry to notice.  No damage done fortunately and the amp worked FB.
