[Heathkit] RX-1 Trick

Finished recapping my RX-1 and started an alignment on it. Someone had gone nuts with a screwdriver and it needed an alignment pretty bad. Everything was going great until i got to the 20 meter section. Just could not get the high end of the band to track right. The problem was the piston cap. I would set it on frequency using a HP signal generator and just the slightest movement of the receiver would throw it out 15 kc, some times more. The adjusting screw/slug was always loose, even with the lock nut tighten down. Never could really get it to settle onto one frequency.
I thought about it for awhile and the it struck me. I filled the bottom side of the piston cap with bees wax and then proceeded to adjust the screw/slug. Low and behold, it worked. Its now on frequency and you can even pick up the corner of the receiver, drop it on the bench and it remains on frequency. Just thought
I would pass this along to anyone who is working on a TX-1. By the way, be sure to put some kind of shield on the underside of the rf deck when doing an alignment.
My 2 cents.
