[Heathkit] TX-1 Mods

I think I have some attempts at audio modifications on this TX-1 and very
poor wiring, including totally wrong wiring. At the moment I am dealing with
the "Mode" switch. It seems lugs 3 and 4 have been wired in reverse and for
some reason a .01 @ 1100 WVDC transmitting mica capacitor has been added
(it's not on the schematic or in the manual) across the same lugs (3 and 4)
of the "Mode" switch. Does anyone know if this is a modification or just a
mistake?

Thanks... Rick / K5IAR

There are probably two that are worth doing.

One is feedback in the modulation circuit.

The other is changing a couple of the audio caps to allow "some" lows.

The *biggest* reason for the "Scratchy Apache" reputation stem from the
fact that what is labeled mic gain is NOT! It is the limiter. The mic
gain is actually available through the jack on the right of the front
panel. I don't remember whther it is the key jack or not. (All of
these are now gone from here. XYL took over and had them hauled away
for scrap.) (I haven't used either a TX-1 or RX-1 in about 10-11 tears.)
