Thanks, Pete. I think my best bet is to trace the circuitry through and
through, put it all back to stock and go from there.

Several years ago, I counted at least 27 published "mods" for the Apache
in magazines and posted on the Internet. QST had three in their "Hints
and Kinks" Electric Radio had three, CQ's Ham Clinic had several, and
simple to the whacky mods have appeared on the Internet. There's at least
one mod floating around that even allows 160 operation. The most common
mod area was to diddle with the modulator circuitry.
