Dick, I think that you need to bite the bullet, take the cage off and
put some grease on the ball bearings. A solvent like WD-40 will clean
the old grease out, but you must them pack in new grease to protect the
bearings.
I got tired of replacing broken belts, so I did the dial cord mod on the
final loading control. It is not hard to do. The procedure is found in
the SB-102 manual. I'd like to replace the driver/preselector belts on
my HW-100. That is a little more involved, but it can be done. I saw a
description of the job with photos somewhere on the www.
