I have to agree.  I put a new battery in mine the other day and ended up 
taking it back out and putting it back on the shelf.  The newer HD-1250 
works well, or if you don't need battery operation, the old tube type 
models such as the Heathkit GD-1 series and similar ones from Eico, B&W, 
and others will do a good job.   My personal favorite is the 
Measurements model 59 at the top end of the spectrum - Ed, N4XY has an
