Do you mean Glyptal?  There was a GE product we used to dab onto the heads of bolts/screws to prevent lossening through vibration.  We used it in military cockpit instrument assembly. This was blue in color as I recall.  There was also a product used as you described in electrical applications that might have been reddish--it's been a few years for me.  Search for GE Glyptal and see what you turn up.

Does anyone know of a good substitute for the old reddish-brown anti-corona 
brush-on dope that was sold under the trade name of, I believe,

My local jobber has re-located---I'm curious if there might be some kind of
