Exactly... a lot of guys buy 7143 kHz crystals from me to get on 14286 kHz for example.

Hi Rick,

You only need xtals for the bottom of 160 and 40 meters. Those old
transmitters multiply from 160 xtals (or VFO) to cover 160, 80, and
sometimes 40 meters and again xtals on 40 meters to multiply up to all
of the the pre-WARC bands. Old transmitters that do not have 160 start
with 80 meter rocks (or VFO) or on 40 meters the same way. You wouldn't
buy a "20 meter xtal" to operate on 20 for example. The xtal or VFO on
40 meters is doubled to get there.

As the frequency band goes up you will be higher in the bands due to
multiplying so get xtals just in a little from the band edges. Your
xtals that start in the 80 or 40 meter phone bands may be out of band
when multiplied up to higher bands. A 7300 kc Xtal will get you to 14600
and 21900 for example (pink ticket)...or 29200 well up in the ten meter
band.

I have bought some things including xtals from Bry, AF4K, who is on this
list and has participated in your other thread about your DX-100. He
hasn't shorted me, yet. I haven't checked QRZ to see what class license
you have but I would suggest working up a list of xtals that will line
up with your priveleges in all of the bands. Then you can use them to
actually go on the air AND test old transmitters. I have some here I use
that way. You don't need a box full of band edge markers, a single
calibrator with 100 kHz and 25 kHz markers will do nicely and cost a lot
less.
