Hi Dale

I would be inclined to check what frequency the carrier oscillator is
generating and the passband shape and frequency of the SSB filter. These rigs
did not have any mechanism for adjusting the carrier oscillator and it is
possible that one or both crystals and/or the filter have aged sufficiently to
have moved significantly off their correct frequencies.

Both carrier frequencies should be about 300Hz down each side of the filter
which typically equates to about -15 to -20dB into the stop band.

I have had one or two SSB filters that have developed faults making them
sound very odd due to excessive ripple in the passband and so far I have been
able to carefully open them up and effect a repair. Normally the ripple
should be less than 2dB. You can see if the ripple is present by tuning
through a single carrier around the S3 to S5 level and watching the S meter.
